President's Message
January 2022
Hello All,
I hope you all enjoyed the Holidays and got reenergized for 2022! I had a great time at our Holiday Potluck and thank you to all for making that event a success. We completed our chapter renewal so we are all set for the season. We will be moving January’s meeting to a zoom event since we are experiencing a substantial surge in COVID cases in Utah and the country. I will likely be doing a short talk on my experiences crewing at the first 13.5 meter world gliding championships in Pociunia, Lithuania in 2015. I hope to do quite a bit of flying this weekend with my friend Tony Condon, who I crewed for in Lithuania, to work on some instrument proficiency in the 210. I hope to see you all at the meeting and please stay safe out there.
Adam

Ray Scholarship Update - Todd
Flying has been going great! I'm regularly soloing now and quickly approaching my checkride. The Written has been a thorn in my side, and Covid is complicating the process to schedule a test date, but I am determined to get it completed. I have started to set aside an hour every day to study for the test, and will schedule it at the earliest possible date. Balancing flight training and school has been a challenging but very rewarding experience that will certainly benefit me as I grow into an adult. Thank you for all your support!
Chapter 58 has completed its application for a 2022 award, it will be for another $10,000 scholarship. The application is due by the end of the month with the selected Chapters being notified by 10 March. Lets all keep our fingers crossed for another scholarship. Rene'

Calling All Artists
For a spring chapter project, our board would like to enhance the appearance of our hangar by painting an aviation/EAA centric mural on the Airport Road-facing side, which continues to promote "Plane Paint" <smiley face>. Send your ideas to eaachapter58@gmail.com along with any talents, resource, etc. other ideas that you have.

Flying Club Opportunity
West Desert Aviators is considering adding a Rans S-19 to its Flying Club. The S-19 is a light sport aircraft (120 mph cruise) that is comparable to an RV-12 (with a beefier frame). This aircraft has twin Dynon Skyviews, autopilot, and is powered by the Rotax 912ULS (100hp). Buy in would be about $9,500 for each of the 10 club members. Hangar dues are $50 per month. Operating costs expected to be $30-45 per hour plus fuel (auto gas at 4-4.5 gph). The aircraft of course, would be located at the West Desert Airport, near Fairfield, Utah. Flight instruction, including primary flight instruction is available from Matthew Kalm or Bryce Brimhall.
If this is something that you would have an interest in, please reach out to Matthew Kalm at (801) 835 -8965. For a members view of West Desert Aviators feel free to reach out to Rick Hixson (801) 971-5849 or Nick Cloward.
