President's Message

September 2022

Hello All,

I am hoping it cools down a bit soon as I would like to make a few fall flights with the family and it may be cool enough to finish the hangar bathroom! I managed to get a few practice approaches in this month and reminded myself that I need to do even more to stay proficient. I am in Wichita for work but hope to get at least one evening at the midwestern vintage sailplane rally before I head back to Utah. I was hoping to go to the Reno air races but I do not think I will make it this year. I did manage to spend a few hours at the National Museum of the Air Force recently and highly recommend to plan a few days there if you get the chance. I enjoyed the experimental hangar with some of my childhood favorites like the X-29, X-15, XB-70 Valkyrie and I was excited to see the Bird of Prey as well! I hope to see some of you at the meeting this month!

News from EAA Headquarters
To celebrate the Young Eagles 30th year anniversary, the EAA will be doubling the value of Young Eagle credits from January - July 2023.  They have challenged pilots to fly 30 Young Eagles! 
RAY Scholar Updates


Just a quick update, Truman Hunt is settling in as a freshman at Utah State and is currently studying for his ground school.  The process for the 2023 scholarship should begin around January 1.  Look for more details later in the year.

Trip Report - Kanab Canard Fly-in


Labor Day weekend is the traditional time for the annual Kanab Canard Fly-in. On the schedule, Friday was noted as a "pre-arrival" day.  There were 34 canards that pre-arrived, the farthest coming in from Philadelphia.  Notably, all three COZY's built at KOGD were able to make it to be a part of all the excitement. Good times were had by all!

As 2022 comes to a close, we have a few board positions opening up for 2023.  We are looking for a few individuals to contribute some of their time, talents, and/or experience to continue to help grow our chapter. Please consider volunteering and getting more involved.  It is a rewarding experience!  Send an email to eaachapter58@gmail.com about your interest or to nominate a qualified candidate.  (Candidates should be a national EAA member and either a current chapter member or willing to join the chapter if selected for a position.)
