It’s a Wrap: TAEBC Completes Filming of Advanced Energy Video Series


TAEBC has been busy the past two months, traveling across the region to film the organization’s first video series. Thanks to the sponsorship of TAEBC Charter members, Silicon Ranch Corporation, Oak Ridge National Lab and Strata-G, three videos were filmed in April and May.
 
The videos take an up close look at the advanced energy sector. Titled “This is Advanced Energy,” “Inside Advanced Energy” and “Innovations in Advanced Energy,” the series features interviews with TAEBC member organizations along with action footage of production, research and development.

Silicon Ranch, Mississippi Power begin work on new $100 million PV plant

Mississippi Power and TAEBC Charter member, Silicon Ranch Corporation broke ground for the state’s largest PV project in Hattiesburg. Once completed, the $100 million installation will generate 50MW of renewable energy — enough to provide power to approximately 6,500 homes. Read more here.

Energy Department announces new funding for National Labs to partner with industry to strengthen clean energy manufacturing competitiveness

Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Dr. David Danielson announced the second round of funding for the Energy Department’s Technologist in Residence (TIR) program. At its core, the new program aims to strengthen lab-industry relationships from such labs as TAEBC Charter member, ORNL to support industry needs and leverage the national lab network for strategic, long-term, collaborative R&D. TVA releases a Request for Information (RFI)

As a member of TVA’s Distributed Generation Information Exchange, TAEBC was made aware of an RFI opportunity. TVA is interested in understanding the current availabilities, flexibilities, and preferences of market participants interested in providing delivered energy and/or capacity to TVA from renewable energy generation sources. Interested parties should respond to this RFI no later than June 30, 2016. The RFI is available online here.

GM seeks to grow EVSs, adds to lineup of 40-mpg cars

General Motors Co. said it remains committed to bringing alternative propulsion vehicles to market and growing consumer acceptance of electric vehicles, even as it doesn’t expect to reach its goal to have half a million electrified vehicles on U.S. roads by next year. Read more here.

Energy Department invests $14M to increase energy efficiency of nation’s homes and buildings

As part of the effort to cut energy waste in the nation’s buildings and double energy productivity by 2030, the Energy Department announced $14 million to dramatically increase the efficiency of our nation’s homes and buildings. These projects will cut energy costs for thousands of American families and businesses, while leading to greater demand for new building products and technologies, many of which can be produced in the U.S. Read the full story here.

U.S. celebrates one million solar installations

While the exact date that the U.S. installed its 1,000,000th solar installation is hard to pinpoint, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), the country is there. The organization plans to celebrate the milestone in early May with a three-pronged approach that includes political outreach, a large social media push and an event to take place in the near future. TVA program pays to use less energy

TVA, which provides electricity in seven states, is offering incentives in exchange for energy-efficient utility upgrades through its EnergyRight Solutions program. Read the full story here.

Advancing ‘bio-oil’ from agriculture waste

The U.S. Department of Agriculture said its Agriculture Research Service scientists have found a way to improve traditional pyrolysis methods for producing bio-oils. The scientists are testing a mobile pyrolysis system for on-farm production of bio-oil from agricultural waste. Read more here.
