TAEBC Introduces Energy Connect Summer Series: Networking Opportunities Hosted by Members, for Members


The summer is heating up to be an energizing time for TAEBC with the launch of the new Energy Connect Summer Series in May. Hosted by members for members, Energy Connect provides networking opportunities to introduce new products and services and talk about timely topics.
 
Upcoming sessions will feature events sponsored by TAEBC members, Genera Energy, PHG Energy and Silicon Ranch. Watch your email and the TAEBC website event calendar for updates and more information.
 
On May 17, TAEBC member, Bradley Arant Boult Cummings, hosts the first Energy Connect session in Nashville, at 1600 Division Street, #700, from 4:30-5:30 pm CT, featuring TVA’s Senior VP of Economic Development, John Bradley.

Behind the Scenes: This is Advanced Energy

TAEBC spent the week traveling and interviewing members to highlight how they are contributing to the advanced energy economy. The interviews are part of an upcoming video series, sponsored by TAEBC Charter members, ORNL, Strata-G and Silicon Ranch.
First look: TAEBC member Bridgestone’s Jim DeMouy, a TAEBC Board member, shares in his words what advanced energy means to the state.
“I think in a word advanced energy means opportunity. If we can continue to bring technology and that entrepreneurial spirit to the state, then people will want to continue to live and work here. I think Tennessee is experiencing rapid growth in certain areas, but we need to expand it throughout the state and there are opportunities everywhere for that. We need to continue bringing people here, and keeping them here and advanced energy gives us that opportunity.”

Partners Group acquires interest in Silicon Ranch

TAEBC Charter member, Silicon Ranch Corporation, a leading U.S. developer, owner, and operator of solar energy plants, has closed on an equity investment from Partners Group, a global private markets investment management firm with over $50 billion in assets under management. Partners Group, which is joined in this investment round by existing Silicon Ranch shareholders, led this equity capital increase for the company with a $100 million commitment on behalf of its clients. TVA partners with Silicon Ranch on massive Tennessee solar project

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has awarded Nashville-based renewable energy provider and TAEBC Charter member, Silicon Ranch Corporation a long-term power purchase agreement for a 53 MW solar project at Naval Support Activity Mid-South in Millington, Tenn. The solar array will be the largest in Tennessee and will provide power to TVA customers for the next 20 years. Read the full story here.

Student startup turning heads by utilizing biofuel waste for good

A pair of doctoral candidates in the Bredesen Center for Interdisciplinary Research and Graduate Education, which is run jointly by TAEBC Charter members, UT and ORNL have developed a process to turn lignin into a product that would aid both the earth and the people who work it, quite literally turning one person’s trash into another one’s treasure. Energy Department opens new round of funding to reward new hydropower

Across the country, there are thousands of dams and waterways that steer water where it needs to go—but they could do more. Applications are now being accepted from owners and operators that produced hydroelectric power in 2015 from new equipment added to an existing dam or conduit constructed before 2005. Applications for this new round of funding are due by May 31, 2016. Read the full story here.

Energy Department announces $4 million for projects launching the orange button solar energy data initiative

The Energy Department announced nearly $4 million for projects to increase access to solar data. Four partners will help launch the new Orange Button℠ initiative, which will increase solar market transparency and fair pricing by establishing data standards for the industry. Read more here.

Lockheed Martin joins energy storage fray with lithium-ion and flow batteries

Lockheed Martin's energy group is raising its profile in a bid to enter the energy storage market with an offering of lithium-ion battery systems, in addition to its new flow-battery chemistry. Read the full story here.

Bioeconomy: one billion tons of biomass

The federal agencies that provide the muscle for energy policy are finalizing plans to harness the energy from one billion tons of biomass per year. The “Bioeconomy Vision” is an effort to move biomass out of the laboratory and into the market. Read the full story here.
