On Campus & Fully Funded

Isaiah 62:1-4

"For Zion's sake, I will not keep silent...until her righteousness goes forth as brightness and her salvation as a burning torch...You shall be called a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord...You shall no longer be called 'Forsaken'...but you shall be called 'My Delight Is In Her'"...
One of the things that our campus minister has said to us many times is that God's Word does not return to Him void. In other words, the Lord's word is all-powerful. An example of this can be seen in Genesis when God creates the world through His words. Another example is evident in the Gospel of Mark when Jesus calms the storm.

Isaiah 62 is such a powerful passage because the Lord is saying that He will not stop His relentless pursuit of His people until they are all His. One of the most beautiful parts about the RUF internship is that we have had the opportunity to tangibly see the Lord's pursuit of His people and the transcendent truth spoken in Isaiah 62.

We hope that through this newsletter, you also tangibly see God's word moving and changing lives.

Move-In Week

Promptly after moving to Starkville on August 12th, we began going to Mississippi State's campus to meet with incoming freshmen. Since all freshmen at MSU live on campus, we had the opportunity to meet with many students on move-in day.

In addition, we spoke with countless freshmen at tabling events on campus throughout the first week. These events allowed us to connect with many students who expressed interest in RUF and are now attending RUF events.
This is one of the tabling events we attended to spread the word about RUF

Large Group

Large group is the weekly worship service that RUF puts on each week. A lot of work goes into pulling it off each week. We work with the music team during the week leading up to Large Group, helping them learn the songs for worship that week. Student leaders show up early to prep the room for Large Group and welcome people as they start to show up. The intern's job during this time is to look for people who are new or by themselves to meet them and help them feel welcome.

Elliott, our campus minister, is preaching through a series on relationships this semester. Students are learning about how we were created to relate, how the Fall affected our relationships with others, and how the Gospel offers hope and direction in how we can now be in relationships with other people whether it is the church, parents, friends, or significant others.

Small Groups

Freshmen Bible study meets two days a week on campus. Elliott is teaching this semester on story shaped lives: how the story of the Gospel impacts our lives. This Bible study is a good way for us to meet freshmen and connect freshmen to other freshmen
Grant and a senior in RUF lead a co-ed hymn study on Tuesday nights. This study meets at our home and we look through a hymn and relate it to passages in Scripture.

Anne Michal and the rest of the girl's staff lead an all-girls Bible study on Wednesday nights. This semester we are also doing a hymn study. This Bible study is unique because many girls who come are not really involved with RUF. We meet in someone from the church’s house and she provides snacks and also participates in the Bible study. It ends up being a safe place for girls to invite friends into a home for fellowship and learning about Jesus.
The Wednesday night girl's Bible study always sings the hymn that is being studied that night

One-on-ones are the majority of how we spend our time. Several times a day, we sit down with a student and get to hear about what is going in his or her life. It may be anything from the chemistry test they had last night, to their family, to their relationship with their boyfriend/girlfriend, or to something that they have been struggling with. It is such a privilege to get to sit and listen to someone's life story. We have been blown away by the ways that the Lord has and is weaving His story into our student's story. It has been such a testament to how the Lord is faithful in every step of our lives.

We are so happy to announce that we are both fully funded for year one! First of all, we are so, so thankful for everyone's generous donations. We could not do what we are doing without everyone's prayers and support. We are so honored that each and every one of you are part of God's story here at MSU. The ministry of RUF at Mississippi State continues because of y'all.

We are still looking for people to partner with us in monthly gifts or one time donations as we look towards raising funds for year two. We would love for you to prayerfully consider joining our support team and the work that the Lord is doing at Mississippi State.
