Everyone here at USA Team Handball would like to wish you, your friends, and family, a very happy holiday season.  We understand the USA Handball family is made up of members from over 30 countries which is why we want everyone to travel safe no matter where your holiday trips may bring you!

Normally this edition would be a review of the past season and looking forward to next year.  We are going to switch it up a little and take a look at the 2015 IHF Women's World Cup which finished this past weekend in Denmark.

The 2015 IHF Women's World Cup

Norway celebrates their third World Championship!
December 2013 marked the last time the top 24 best women's national teams met.  That time it was in Serbia, and Brazil came away with the World Championship win which was the first time a team from the western hemisphere took the gold.  Coming in a close second was tournament host Serbia being defeated by a very small (2) goal margin.

This year's edition of the World Championship, now in Denmark, saw a very different ending.  The 2013 Champions, Brazil, were knocked out in the Round of Eight by Romania which ended up taking third.  The Dutch National Team came through as an under dog taking the second spot but was no match for Norwegians who took the trophy with a decisive 31-23 win.

The teams that represented our hemisphere included; Brazil, Argentina, Cuba, and Puerto Rico.  Brazil managed to make it out of group play finishing in the top 8.  Teams that were unable to make it out of group play 17-24, play in the Presidents Cup.  Argentina took second in this bracket (18th overall) while Puerto Rico took 20th and Cuba 23rd.
Player of the Year Selection
The Players of the Year were also selected during halftime of the final game.  Another Brazilian, this time Eduarda Amorim was selected on the women's side while Nikola Karabatic of France was selected on the men's side.
