The Race

Over the past 71 years, the Rolex Sydney Hobart has become an icon of Australia's summer sport, ranking in public interest with such national events as the Melbourne Cup horse race, the Australian Open tennis and the cricket tests between Australia and England. No regular annual yachting event in the world attracts such huge media coverage than does the start on Sydney Harbour.

Entries for the race close on Friday 28 October, there are currently 50 entries and the organisers expect the number of entries to be in the early 90s.

Australian entries represent NSW, Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia with a good cross section of yachts from Mainland China, New Zealand, Sweden, England, Hong Kong, two from the USA and a first ever entry from Slovenia.

Scallywag, the rebadged Ragamuffin 100 recently purchased by Hong Kong businessman, Seng Huang Lee, is the first 100 foot super maxi to sign on the dotted line.
