CHANGES TO JOINT HEALTH AND SAFETY COMMITTEE TRAINING
Most workplaces in Ontario with 20 or more workers are required to have at least one worker and one management representative serve as certified members of a workplace Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC). This certification process involves training in health and safety law, and the identification, assessment and control of hazards.
The Ontario Ministry of Labour has instituted new training requirements for members of your Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) in order for them to become certified. Effective March 1, 2016, employees seeking certification must enrol in the new certification program and will be required to complete refresher training every three years.
