LUCES & SDMA Updates
As you know a lot is unfolding through University Communication as it relates to COVID-19 and ensuring communal safety. We are aware that you and many of your peers have additional questions and concerns that have not been answered. The SDMA staff asks for your continued patience as we re-envision the remainder of the spring semester. Beginning on March 23, all academic courses will be conducted online. Similarly, SDMA & LUCES will align with University Communication and adapt our programming initiatives to be virtual experiences.
Below are important highlights:
Program Cancellations – Given that students have one week to prepare for departure or to settle into a new room assignment, we want to cancel upcoming programs for this week. This includes the Social Justice Symposium, UndocuWeek Open Mic, and LUCES Brunch. All general programming such as mentorship gatherings and End of the Year Celebrations will also be canceled. We will plan to develop some heart-warming virtual experiences for everyone.
LUCES Mentorship &Support – During this time and the remainder of the semester, I ask that everyone make a connection with their mentors/mentees. Mentors (Staff/Faculty & Peer Mentors): See how your mentee is doing. How are they navigating move out? Maybe link up one more time before departure may take place. The expectation is to continue to check in with your mentees throughout the remainder of the semester, as well as submitting check-in reports as needed.
Mentees: Check-in on your staff/faculty & peer mentors to see how they may be managing these changes. Let's make sure to check in on each other during this time! Also, feel free to stop by SDMA to see me if you have any questions, hangout, or just to say goodbye until next time.
Legacy Celebration – We are aware that students have many questions regarding Commencement. At this time SDMA staff will wait for University Communication to release a statement on April 3. Once that decision is reached, SDMA will have a response to share with the Loyola community. At this time Legacy Celebration is still scheduled to happen on Sunday, May 3. As for those who have questions about graduation regalia, stay tuned, I have formally brought that questions forward and University Officials will work to answer that question. As soon as I hear the answer to that question, I will be sure to share it with our SDMA community.
Residence Hall Closure Information – Please review the residence life website. for additional details regarding closing. If you are unable to leave campus due to economic hardship or unforeseen circumstances and need to continue living on campus, please complete this form by Sunday, March 15.
