Welcome Our New Communiations Coordinator

We are excited to announce that Farmshare Austin has a new Communications Coordinator, although she is not new to our team! Daniela Silva has been a Mobile Market Coordinator since fall of last year and has been serving as our Communications Coordinator since early April.

Daniela is a first generation native Texan who has had a passion for agriculture since she first started attending the Houston Rodeo as a young child. She received both her bachelor's and master's degrees from Texas A&M University and has dedicated her life to advocating for sustainable agriculture and food sovereignty. Daniela is elated at the opportunity to become even more involved with Farmshare Austin and to continue working for the mission of growing a healthy local food community by increasing food access, teaching new farmers and preserving farmland.

Farmer Starter Updates

Applications for the Fall 2020 Farmer Starter session are open! The semester is August 4th through December 17th, and the deadline to apply is May 31st. For more information or to apply, visit our website. Spots are filling up fast, so apply soon!

Farmshare offers need-based financial assistance. In addition, CCOF offers grant funding opportunities of up to $2,500 to future organic professionals.

Farmer Starter Alumni Check-In with: Terryce

Q: What are you up to now, either personally or professionally?
A: In January I became the Fresh Produce Initiatives Coordinator at the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma here in Tulsa. I manage our raised bed gardens and two hydroponic growing containers. I also oversee produce distribution at 10 early childhood centers and 2 hospitals!

Q: How did Farmshare help you get where you are now?
A: Farmshare gave me the knowledge and confidence to do this job effectively and I'm so grateful! It involved aspects of growing and of actually getting the food to people, so participating in the Mobile Markets and working at the SFC Farmers Market really provided some good experience. I'd encourage Farmer Starters to get involved with the markets more because it makes for a well-rounded bank of experience. People love meeting the folks who grow their food and it makes you feel all fuzzy inside too, so that's a plus. It may also help you connect with other tradespeople like herbalists, home brewers, cooks, etc. that you could possibly grow herbs, fruits and veggies for.

Q: Is there a way that Farmshare is helping you live life/pursue your passions?
A: I'm also starting raised bed gardens at home and I plan to sell at Tulsa's Greenwood Farmers Market in the summer.

H-E-B Tournament of Champions Grant

Back in April, Farmshare Austin was awarded a generous grant from the H-E-B Tournament of Champions for our Mobile Markets. This is the fourth year that H-E-B has partnered with Farmshare to increase food access through the Mobile Markets. With their support, we will be able to continue increasing access to healthy and affordable food to all our neighbors that need it.

Farmshare In the News

Austin American-Statesman photojournalist Lola Gomez produced this video about our COVID-response Mobile Market Curbside Delivery, and Statesman journalist Heather Osborne featured our COVID-response partnership with Cap Metro.

A big Farmshare heap of gratitude to those who were able to support Farmshare through Giving Tuesday Now on May 5th.

With the support and generosity of our friends and neighbors, we were able to raise enough money to cover the costs of repairing our cans, but the seeds needed for our summer crops and get enough grocery bags to last us for several more weeks!

We are so honored to be able to serve as a resource for our community throughout this epidemic and beyond. If you missed Giving Tuesday Now and are in a position to donate, it is not too late. Scroll down to the Support Our Work section for a donate link.

To all of our supporters, thank you.

Support Our Work

If you are able, please consider a donation of any size to Farmshare Austin by clicking this link. Launching the Curbside Initiative enables access to healthy, local produce and groceries for our most economically vulnerable Mobile Market customers. This new program requires extra supplies to ensure safe deliveries and extra people power, so we appreciate any financial support from our cherished Farmshare community!
