Innovation and Flexibility Allow Us to Keep Austin Fed
Due to health and safety precautions around COVID-19, Farmshare Austin has temporarily suspended the Mobile Markets. To continue providing the highest quality, affordable produce and grocery items for our customers, our team has created Fresh for Less Curbside Delivery Service!

Customers are able to order farm-fresh produce and organic grocery items via our website and have it delivered directly to their homes. All forms of payment previously accepted at the Mobile Markets are accepted at Curbside Delivery including cash, credit/debit card, Lonestar/SNAP, and Double Up Food Bucks.

Every part of our organization has adopted new measures of sanitation and precaution in order to keep our staff, students, and customers as healthy and safe as possible. This includes, but is not limited to: required hand-washing, staff temperature checks, sanitation of all equipment, wearing disposable gloves and a face mask, and a no-contact method of delivery to ensure social distancing.

Farmshare Austin is dedicated to serving our communities by making healthy, fresh foods accessible to our most geographically and economically vulnerable neighbors. For this reason, and due to our limited capacities around this new program, we have limited delivery to the zip codes in which Mobile Markets were situated.

Cultivator Check-In

The Farmer Cultivator program is the newest addition to Farmshare’s programming to train farmers. It is a six-month farm incubator program that gives Farmer Starter alumni the chance to manage all aspects of farming without significant financial investment. Farmshare provides land access on our farm, tools, mentorship, and a guaranteed market for which the Farmer Cultivators can grow crops. Their harvest is sold at Farmshare’s Fresh For Less Mobile Markets and Curbside Delivery.

Our team recently reached out to farmers who currently are in the Cultivator program in order to find out what they have been up to since graduating from Farmer Starter.

Erin Waters is working at Middle Ground Farm and growing food at Farmshare through the Cultivator Program. She is thrilled to just have sold her first harvest of spinach and cilantro! Here's what Erin has to say about her experience:

"Farmshare taught me everything I needed to learn to get started farming! All of my farming mentors have taught, learned, or farmed at Farmshare. I had no prior farming knowledge or experience before starting Farmer Starter in Spring 2019. Working as the assistant farm manager at Farmshare in Fall 2019 helped me hone my skills, continue building community and even start teaching some of the things I learned as a student!

Farmshare feels like home to me. It's where I can usually find my favorite people. It's a place I believe in and that's always so welcoming to me! I'm at the farm whenever I can be to tend my Cultivator beds. Farmshare is helping me pursue my passions by giving me a space to test my knowledge by actually growing and selling my own produce in a fairly low-risk, safe place surrounded by knowledgeable people. Sharing tools and getting a taste of a real world land-lease experience is so vital as a young farmer who doesn't yet have the means to own her own land."
Ruben Torres is focusing on continuing to learn and hone his skills within the Cultivator program. In addition, he and his wife are looking to buy land in order to start their own farm after she finishes Farmer Starter! That is where all his energy is currently going, and here he shares his experience with Farmshare:

"I can honestly say without Farmshare, I wouldn't even be in Austin right now. I moved here for the program and through it I learned everything I know now about farming (I knew nothing before). I was fortunate enough to be able to continue working with Farmshare through the Cultivator program and I love every second of it. I have a sense of farming alone, yet I know I have this wonderful network of people to help me with anything I may need or to answer any questions I have - it is all thanks to Farmshare. Not only have they helped me find peace in my career choice, but they also helped me find a lot of inner peace as I have never been as happy with work as I am now with farming; I definitely have Farmshare to thank for that.

Farmshare is really on top of helping their alumni ! It feels like once or twice a week I am getting emails talking about different opportunities whether it's other farms that need a hand, or people selling tools and other equipment. They also connected me with a gentleman who has a small plot of land that he was interested in having someone farm. I feel overwhelming support from everyone at Farmshare, like they honestly want to see me succeed and that they will do whatever they can to make that happen."
