Lorig Hawkins has served as Farmshare Austin’s Board Chair for nearly two years and has been instrumental in Farmshare’s growth. Lorig joined the board in 2016, but prior to taking on this role, they were Farmshare’s first farm manager—managing all aspects of the farm and training our beginning farming students.
Over the years, Lorig has provided us with thoughtful guidance, expert insights and ideas. Thanks to Lorig, Farmshare has been able to graduate 66 Farmer Starters of whom 80 percent are farming or working in the food system and to launch Farmshare’s food access work, Fresh for Less, which started as a seasonal pilot program in 2016 and now runs year-round through both Mobile Markets and home Curbside Delivery.
In addition to moving Farmshare forward, Lorig also has played a vital role in nurturing the farming community in Central Texas. As the co-founder of the Central Texas Young Farmers Coalition, Lorig has provided resources to young and beginning farmers to help them succeed in their ventures. They are also the owner and president of Middle Ground Farm in Bastrop, TX, which is on a mission to unite people through produce.
Our heartfelt thanks to Lorig for their enthusiasm, kindness and dedication to Farmshare. We are truly grateful for Lorig’s contributions and support, and we wish Lorig all the best!
