Resolution Celebration
Families, students, teachers, and community members gathered to celebrate the passing of the APS resolution that supports students regardless of documentation status. The resolution passed with a 7-0 vote by the APS Board of Education! We believe it is the first community led and community written resolution to pass in the U.S and we're proud of families and students for making history in Aurora. For months, everyone organized and worked SO hard to make the resolution a reality and we admire families' courage and bravery through the whole process. This is an incredible win for our communities! Families are proving what's possible as they lead the movement for educational equity.  We enjoyed a wonderful dinner together and shared reflections and memories of our experiences over the past several months.
NewSchools Venture Fund Summit
RISE Parent Leaders, Sipinga and Diana, spoke at last month's NewSchools Venture Fund Summit and we are so excited to share with you the video of their panel discussion. These women are the definition of the term change agents and they did an amazing job speaking in front of a crowd of over 1,000 education leaders from across the country about their work in leading the movement for educational equity in Aurora.  Watch their video below!
New Politics Leadership Training
The team from New Politics came out to Aurora to provide a weekend-long leadership training for families, students, and educators. Participants learned how to tell their story of self in a way that moves others to action and gained many other leadership skills as well. The group was made up of people of color from diverse backgrounds who are ready to lead their communities forward toward positive systemic change. Thank you to New Profit and New Politics for making this wonderful training possible!
Progressive Hero Award
A huge thank you to New Leaders Council Denver for honoring RISE CEO Veronica Palmer as a Progressive Hero during their Change on the Front Range event.
