In October RISE was very busy holding workshops in several APS Schools.
South Middle School and RISE Colorado teamed up to host the first simultaneous teen and parent Opportunity Gap presentations. Students and families came out to learn about the opportunity gap that exists for low-income families and families of color and what we can all do to close the gap. It was a super successful night with lots of great feedback from teens, parents and teachers!
Park Lane Elementary School and RISE Colorado recently held their first Parent Opportunity Gap Workshop. School staff facilitated presentations on local and national performance data. Families asked great questions about how they can close the opportunity gap for their children and for all students.
Vega Collegiate Academy and RISE Colorado also partnered together to hold their first Parent Opportunity Gap Workshop for their kindergarteners and fifth graders. Rooms were packed with both parents and students as they discussed ways to close the opportunity gap.
Families and students met with district officials over a weekend to learn about ways they can better communicate with schools in Aurora. We are proud of families for sharing their experiences and solutions to help make the district more accessible to all families no matter what language they speak.
Home Visit Training
Jamaica Child Development Center and RISE staff partnered with the National Parent Teacher Home Visit Program to learn best practices in relationship-building home visits. RISE is proud to partner with Jamaica CDC who is the first pre-school in CO trained by the National Parent Teacher Home Visit Program for home visits.

On day two of the conference, Veronica and Parent Leader, Raquel Amador, were invited to speak on another panel hosted by New Profit Inc.
