We have another successful Candidate Forum in the books! We so are proud of families and students for their leadership during the Family-Led Candidate Forum. 8 out of the 9 candidates participated in the forum and responded to questions from the audience. Families and students asked the candidates questions on the issues most important to them and were able to talk with them one on one when the event was finished. We had a packed house with about 100 people and standing room only. Thanks to all who attended and participated to make this a great event!

In September, the RISE Colorado team was fortunate to meet and present to the Gates Family Foundation Board of Directors and team. The foundation members were able to hear from the RISE team, parents, school partners, and students. Thanks to Gates Family Foundation for inviting us to share our work with them and for the invaluable support that their foundation provides. A special thank you to New Legacy HS for allowing us to use their beautiful space and for their continued partnership.
Teachers and staff at RISE Partner Schools toured the community to explore the many assets that Aurora has to offer. In RISE Colorado's Asset Mapping Workshop, teachers gain an understanding of the resources available to better serve their students.
RISE Colorado held its first Parent Opportunity Gap (POG) Workshop of the 2017-2018 school year at Jamaica Child Development Center with packed rooms. 63 parents came out to learn about the opportunity gaps that exist within our school system. We received great feedback from both parents and school staff. We are excited for the upcoming POG workshops at other partner schools happening in the next few weeks!
Activities and Celebrations
What's better than spending a Saturday afternoon with Aurora families? Nepali, Burmese, and Karen families have been teaming up on multiple Saturdays during coalition meetings to talk about their children's education and how they can best support their children's learning at home and in school.
The RISE team recently welcomed two new staff members. Jocelyne Garcia is our new Latino Community Organizer and Caitlin Mendenhall is our new Program Coordinator. We are super excited for everything these two wonderful women will add to an already amazing team!
