Education Leaders of Color (EdLoC) Inaugural Fund

We are incredibly thankful and humbled that RISE Colorado was selected for the Education Leaders of Color (EdLoC) inaugural Boulder Fund grant! The Boulder Fund is a new multi-million dollar grant program to support the innovations of leaders of color in education. Our inaugural cohort is comprised of six education leaders of color from across the country who have been awarded grants to support our work as creative solutions to some of the most pressing issues in education.

We are honored that RISE was chosen and that families' work as they lead the movement for educational equity in Aurora is being acknowledged.  Congratulations to our RISE Parent Leaders and students for this amazing recognition and the RISE team who work alongside families every day.

Thank you EdLoC for your belief in education leaders of color and recognizing our work at RISE Colorado!

College Visit
RISE Families Visit the University of Colorado Boulder
On Feb. 17th, RISE took over 60 parents and students to visit the University of Colorado Boulder for our Pathways to College event. Parents and students had an incredible time and enjoyed visiting the CU Boulder campus as well as learning more about higher education and how to support Aurora students to attend college. Thank you to CU's ODECE for hosting and welcoming our Aurora families.
RISE Families Speak to APS
School Board of Education

We are incredibly proud of families for speaking during public comment at the APS School Board meeting on February 20th. Six RISE Parent Leaders and an APS teacher spoke about the importance of increased interpretation and translation services to support their children's education and academic achievement. They worked incredibly hard to prepare their speeches about their experiences and the need for a Central Language Services Office.

Thanks to our Aurora Education Coalition partners, Young Aspiring Americans for Social and Political Activism-YAASPA and African Leadership Group, for coming out and supporting Parent Leaders along with many other community members. Families are courageous and powerful! They work passionately every day to ensure their children receive the excellent education they deserve.
Public Narrative
RISE Partner Schools Share Their Stories of
Self, Us, & Now
RISE Colorado's School Partner Specialists, Angele and Anne, have been working hard in January and February to help our partner schools develop their public narratives. Teachers and administration at South Middle School, Park Lane Elementary, and Vega Collegiate Academy have been cultivating and sharing their stories as powerful tools to better connect with each other and the families and students they work with. After hearing another teacher's story, one teacher at South Middle School commented, "I have a better idea of why you do what you do because of how you wove your personal experiences into South's story." School staff has found that sharing a personal story takes vulnerability and bravery, but the chance for shared understanding is worth the risk.
"Vulnerability helps to create human to human connection. We all have areas we need to grow; being able to identify them and say them aloud is powerful."
~ Britney Whitenhill, Assitant Executive Director at Vega Collegiate Academy
