This month, RISE members Kumar and Shova Dahal share their experience starting one of RISE's first organizing coalitions!
2015 is off to a strong start for RISE! We hit the ground running with several workshops and trainings for families. We hosted a Family Learning Night at Jamaica Child Development Center in collaboration with 22 Jamaica staff members. Four community members and 58 family members of over 70 school-aged children in attendance.
We also hosted our first Parent Opportunity Gap night for teen families at Early Beginnings. We collaborated with all 12 staff at Early Beginnings to reach 17 of the 22 teen parents whose babies are enrolled in the school! We were glad to have the support of three University of Denver graduate student volunteers, and food donations from Chipotle, Subway, and Janet Kiyota & Trion Promotions for both events.
This month RISE Colorado CDC families kicked off their coalition work through organizing trainings and an exciting issues forum that brought to light the challenges most impacting RISE members in supporting their students' academic achievement.
