Kite, in collaboration with L Frank and Kristopher Rindon Johnson, will be contributing an artwork for the exhibition Lifes Exhibition at the Hammer Museum. Lifes is a curatorial assemblage, an exercise in synthesis, a composite being, a living software, a durational sequence, a cacophony of intentions, a misunderstanding, a text that dances, an extended conversation, a voice in ruin, a mapping of relations, a lean into the future. Initiated by four commissioned texts and including contributions from more than 40 individuals from various creative fields, Lifes considers the legacy of the so-called total work of art and the possibilities and pitfalls of interdisciplinary artmaking.

The exhibition will address Native issues across the county, highlighting shared and individual triumphs and struggles. The title 'Outcropping' refers to Shinnecock's translation into English as 'People of the Stony Shore' and Shinnecock's long connection to this land.

Cigale Issue 3: Sovereignties

Sonic Sovereignty: A Discussion

To purchase the publication, visit the Cigale website here.

Cigale's Winter 2022 publication features a conversation between Kite and Nathan Young exploring Sonic Sovereignty.

This third issue examines the complex and troubled notion of sovereignty. The collected texts probe various forms of sovereignty―territorial, corporeal, technological, national―and offer a plural (re)definition of the term through its uses. They bring us to question the relevance and usefulness of the concept in a decolonial perspective.

"Kite will take us on a remote, roving tour and performance across three of her studio spaces in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Afterward, participants will have an opportunity to ask questions and engage in a remote conversation with the artist.

This event is part of a three-part series titled “As If: Reimagining Futures,” celebrating media artists who are committed to alternative modes of imagining the future; rooted in non-white, non-Western frameworks; and refuse the ongoing quotidian violence of contemporary American life.

Presented by USC Visions and Voices: The Arts and Humanities Initiative. Organized by Holly Willis (Cinematic Arts)."
