ArtOpps of the Week: ACS Studio Prize

The Artists’ Collecting Society (ACS) is offering one student or recent graduate £4,500 to contribute to the cost of an artist’s studio in a UK city of their choice. The Prize is open to all final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students studying Fine Art and other creative courses. Artists who have graduated from such a course within the past four years are also invited to apply.

  London Spotlight

See artist Jeremy Annear's dynamic works at Messums in London, whose modernist approach to painting creates visual shifts that take its cues from rhythm and music.

  Berlin Spotlight

Atmospheric Fragments is a part of 48 Stunden Neukölln Festival, an interactive digital showroom archiving fragments of sound, vision and atmospheres captured from organic, raw and urban landscapes. Through a series of audio-visual works focusing on Neukölln and its neighbouring areas, this collaboration presents a sonic reinterpretation, or soundtrack, to mimic, underscore and re-imagine visions from real world environments.

  New York Spotlight

Bill Scott: A Prolonged Moment opens as a Digital Presentation at Hollis Taggart with new abstract oil paintings and small-scale watercolours that capture the exuberant energy and brilliant colour for which Scott’s work is recognized.

  LA Spotlight

Galerie XII presents photographer Scarlett Hooft Graafland’s Vanishing Traces, covering 15+ years of work and spanning 6 different countries. Scarlett Hooft Graafland's ideas emerge from close study of the local mythology that originates in these otherworldly environments.

  Studio Visit

There is nothing that gives Heidi Johnson more satisfaction than painting. During quarantine, Johnson went from having a 1000 square foot loft to a 6 by 4-foot space in a spare bedroom in a rental house, which forced her to scale down her works to no larger than 48 inches square. Her new paintings primarily feature birds and touch on the schism between inside and out and the longing and then acceptance that comes from being confined. Jody Zellen visits her studio.

  Artist Opportunities

A weekly updated selection of international open calls for contemporary art related competitions, prizes, exhibitions, awards, proposals, and grants for artists, writers, and curators.
