Art, news, opportunities  22 July 2020

Hello, Summer Break!

Around July and August is usually when the art world slows down, takes annual leave with a side of sunshine and gets in some rest in time to face the busy autumn season. Because of everything happening around COVID-19, we can't really predict how busy September will be this year. Regardless, the arts seem to be staying on schedule with fewer openings and events happening in the coming weeks. So for the next four weeks, instead of our usual location-specific newsletters, we'll be sending only one out weekly, filled with highlights, opportunities and other art news.

You can still be in the know about art events happening near you. Simply head to ArtRabbit to find upcoming events in London, the UK, Berlin, New York, Los Angeles or wherever you'll find yourself. If you're not about that art-in-a-socially-distanced-gallery sort of life, you can attend art events from home. See our regularly updated calendar of online art events for things to attend via your internet connection. Get your cultural fill, stay safe, and we'll keep sending art goodies your way.

A Fine Balance: Contemporary and Country

More than forty artists and makers from East Anglia present a diverse selection of artworks at A Fine Balance. This pop-up exhibition by Contemporary and Country will be held at Houghton Hall in Norfolk, alongside the largest outdoor UK exhibition of British artist Anish Kapoor. Exploring our relationship with nature at this critical moment, each artist captures the landscape of the region and brings attention to its often overlooked aspects with their unique visual languages. Social distancing measures will be in place, and all works are for sale with a greater collection of works available online.

LA Art Pick of the Week

Revisit Zoe Walsh at M+B with Jody Zeller's review. Images of people frolicking in and around swimming pools can be interpreted as iconic to Los Angeles and they are the source for Zoe Walsh's mixed-media works. Walsh transforms photographs from a gay archive taken in the 1970s into colourful montages that fuse people and place. For upcoming events in LA, head to ArtRabbit.
