Affordable Parking Program growth continues with private garages

Since August, the City of Austin has partnered with private garage providers to expand the Affordable Parking Program by 2,015 spaces at ten locations downtown. The goal is to improve affordability for employees who work evenings and weekends, including those in the service and entertainment industries.

The program now has 14 garages with more than 100 users. The new garages fall within the downtown core, along with one in the Seaholm District. Many feature extended hours, including all day Saturdays and Sundays and as early as 3 p.m. on weekdays. The garages are managed by either Premier Parking or Lanier Parking, depending on location.

“With this surge in reach and availability, downtown employees now have more access than ever to the Affordable Parking Program,” said Jason Redfern, Austin Transportation Parking Operations Manager. “We’re excited to work with these providers to open the program up to more people who need it, including those who are starting their shifts just as the traditional work day is winding down.”

The City of Austin also recently partnered with the Downtown Austin Alliance, which is leveraging its transportation management association Movability to work with local businesses and direct downtown employees to the Affordable Parking Program.

Rates for each of the 10 new garages are $40 plus tax per month. View a list of all 14 garages, along with hours and instructions on how to join the Affordable Parking Program.

Help City Manager Cronk hire Austin’s next City leaders

The City of Austin's seal.
Austin City Manager Spencer Cronk wants residents to play a part in his process for recruiting and hiring new executives to the City by filling out a survey by Sept. 28.

The City will be soon be hiring two Assistant City Managers and a few department directors. These leaders will be responsible for guiding the City's work toward one or more of the outcomes identified in the City of Austin’s strategic plan.

This survey asks the public to identify skills and characteristics they feel are most important for a City leader to have. It also asks Austinites to share what they think are the biggest challenges these leaders should be prepared to address. The survey is open now and will be available until Friday, Sept. 28. You can also call 3-1-1 or email executive-recruitment@austintexas.gov to provide feedback.

In July, City Manager Spencer Cronk announced he would be realigning City departments to better support the Council's adopted Strategic Direction 2023. That strategic direction focuses the City's work around six outcome areas:
  • Health & Environment
  • Culture & Lifelong Learning
  • Safety
  • Government That Works for All
  • Economic Opportunity & Affordability
  • Mobility
You can learn more about the realignment, and the Strategic Direction here: Strategic Direction 2023.
