Summer Camps are almost here!

Now in our third year, we will be running two 5-week long STEM educational summer camps from July 18th to August 20th in the countries of Mali and Senegal.

This year’s camp will immerse 90 students in more than 30 hands-on projects and experiments spanning Physics, Chemistry, Natural Science, Math, and Engineering and Technology. For the first time this summer, thanks to the generous donation of OvaScience, iNERDE’s summer activities will also include the programming of 100 AERobots (Affordable Education Robots) designed by Harvard University’s Wyss institute as well as 6 Genes in a Bottle DNA Extraction kits donated by Bio-Rad. iNERDE also lists EMC Corporation and STC France among its long-term corporate sponsors.

Of course, none of this would be possible with out the support of all of you to which we are immensely grateful! We look forward to connecting with you again soon during our Weekly Camp Reports!

Leaving Silicon Valley for My Next Big Dream!

Michael Leventhal is iNERDE's Chief Nerdy Development Officer. For the past couple of years in the spare time that his market development job in the Silicon Valley allowed him, he has been leading both fundraising efforts and the creation of the computer science and programming curriculum. But that was not enough for Michael; he left his six figure job and the comforts of California and moved to the city of Bamako in Mali in April to further support the efforts of iNERDE and run more operations locally in Africa. Listen to more of his vlogs and read about his personal odyssey and what he hopes to accomplish at https://www.gofundme.com/SV2Africa.
Partnering with Public Schools in Africa
iNERDE raises 15% of its operating expenses in the Africa from program fees and from donations from a variety of African sources. Africans work hard to provide for their families and do not believe in handouts.  However, the full cost of our camps is beyond the means of most of our student families so we must raise funds from foundations, corporate sources, and individual donors; as do many educational organizations in the US and other first world countries.

We are partnering with two extraordinary public schools this year. Badalabougou is joining us for their second year and Dianquina Coulibaly is a new partner. Despite serving a population in extreme poverty, these two schools have dedicated students, educators, and administrators as well as a supportive community of parents.

A huge thank you to all who donated towards this; especially during our recent Global Giving campaign in which we reached our remaining goal in just 24 hours!
