Cars & Coffee Review • 4th of July Picnic

First Event ... A Huge Success
Rhody Cruisers held the First Cars & Coffee event of the summer at AutoZone in Florence. I had hoped it would be popular with the local car community. With dry pavement and sun coming out, they began arriving, almost in a line. The game changed from ... "where do I want to park" to "are there any spaces left". Soon enough, customers left and the space replaced with Another Cool Classic Car. All the edges filled, and funky spaces got plugged. The Banner went up, as the canopy and table popped up to. Peets Coffee and plenty of donuts showed up, and the 50/50 tickets came out. Dianne and Pam started setting up. Pam Erickson, with a mask, gloves and tongs went to work managing the table. ..."don't touch that! I will serve you". Dianne kept setting up the 50/50 and arranging stuff. Ruth Ann Cromwell and Sue Baker volunteered to sell tickets, and began touring. Hot Rodders will buy anything from pretty girls. I got out my Director horn and went off to warn of the incoming sales ladies.
A total of 36 sweet cars were hanging out including 6 cars from Newport's Bay City Cruisers. Members greeted old friends and looked inside cars checking the newest upgrades.
I was busy with many people asking about joining the Rhody Cruisers and adding 5 Hot Rodders to this mail list.

Too soon, it was almost Noon and time for the big 50/50 drawing. Codie French, the Autozone Manager, came out with Gift Cards to add to the drawing. The winning ticket would collect $90. I was so pleased with the turnout, I had to thank everybody. If you were there you know it was a perfect little Car Show. Just like a real Car Show, within minutes of announcing the winners, the lot was empty. The show continued on Bay Street with lots of waves and thumbs from the tourists. Friends, including myself could later be seen at the Beachcomber, enjoying an afternoon beverage.

In our recent Membership Update, I asked who uses Facebook... Well, a lot of you do, but don't belong to the "Oregon Coast Hot Rods Group". The group now has 324 members from all over the area and beyond. While it was not my intention, it has become a staple of communication within the Rhody Cruisers. We see last minute invites for a "Bay Street Roll", Classic Car pictures, Old Hot Rods and even great music links. Gear heads from all over Oregon post, comment on stuff, help solve problems and recommend resources. Do you want to know what's up, tell a story or post a picture? Its easy to join, fun to post and comment. Be There or Be Square...
