April 3, 2014 Bogac Ergene, 2014 Aga Khan Visiting Professor Lecture.“Making the Case for a Quantitative and Economic Approach to Ottoman Legal History.” 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. Watson Institute, Joukowsky Forum.
April 4-5, 2014 Bogac Ergene, Aga Khan Visiting Professor 2014.  “Sharia, Government, and Development”  workshop. Watson Institute,  Joukowsky Forum. 

This event brings together renowned scholars from multiple fields in order to explore the relationships between Islamic law, governance, and socioeconomic development in various early-modern and modern settings. We anticipate limited available seating for the audience. For those who would like to participate in this event, we recommend registering early to reserve a seat on the Aga Khan Workshop website, agakhanbrown.org.
Please note that the luncheon seminar on April 2, 2014 (Danya Qato.  “Pharmaceutical Policy and Patient Safety in the Middle East, North Africa, and the United States” )
has been cancelled.

Middle East Studies|Brown is proud to welcome  Nicola Perugini (left) as a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow in Italian Studies and Middle East Studies and Amal Sachedina (right), who has been named the Aga Khan Visiting Professor in Islamic Humanities for 2014-15. On Tuesday, April 1, tickets go on sale on the Middle East Studies website for the May 10, 2014 Mohsen Namjoo concert, “When you are talking about Iranian Fusion, what are you talking about?” 7:00 p.m. Grant Recital Hall. Co-sponsorship funding from Music Department, TAPS, CAC and Cogut Center for the Humanities.
 
DEADLINES APPROACHING FOR SENIOR CONCENTRATORS
 
Senior concentrators must send final copies of their theses or capstones to Professor Watson and their advisers and sign up for presentation slots by April 15. The presentations of capstones and theses will be held on May 7, 2014 in the Joukowsky Forum.
