CALL FOR PAPERS!

The Middle East Studies Departmental Undergraduate Group is now accepting submissions for  the Spring 2015 Undergraduate Paper Series.

The Paper Series is a forum for undergraduate students to share their independent research work, encouraging the study of the Middle East through a multitude of disciplines. The monthly event includes panel presentations and dinner discussions with peers, professors and the Brown community.

To submit a paper or to pose questions, please get in touch at mesdug@brown.edu.

December 2, 2014 Middle East Studies Undergraduate Paper Presentation. "Orient and Occident with Their Best Have Crowned Thee: Turbulent Times Across Ottoman Turkey." Kutay Onayli '17 and Lara Savenije '15. 6:30 p.m. McKinney Conference Room.

December 3, 2014 Middle East Studies Luncheon Seminar. "Are You Armenian Now? Christian Converts in Contemporary Turkey." Lisa DiCarlo, professor of sociology. 12:00-1:00 p.m. McKinney Conference Room. This is a new title. Registration required. Please note that unclaimed lunches and seats will be given to those on standby upon start of the event. 

December 4, 2014 Middle East Studies Lecture. "Port Cities and Printers: Reflections on Early Modern Global Armenian Print Culture, 1512-1800." Sebouh Aslanian, UCLA. 5:00-6:30 p.m. Joukowsky Forum. This event will be livestreamed.
