After reading that elderly people are particularly vulnerable to loneliness, a lady called Sam Pritchard set up the ‘Cards against Loneliness’ campaign. Every week, local children write letters to elderly residents in Lancashire, and post them in their ‘Cards Fighting Loneliness’ postbox.
One lady who received a card said she hadn’t spoken to anyone properly in 18 months, and feels like she's in touch with the community again. Sam said:
"If 1 person receives a letter and 1 person's day is made, it'll be worth it’.
