What, No Music?
I am forgoing the background music this issue because I am having some ethical problems with YouTube, as I have with any and all whose goal to make more money supersedes every other consideration.
Instead, I'm going to sing the praises of an organization about which I heartily approve.
Some years back, I changed insurance companies quite a few times and found them all problematic. I got bills from labs and other providers I didn't even remember using. I learned that something I believed was covered wasn't. And so on.
So at last I told my kids, "We're going back to Kaiser. If we get very sick, they will either help us get well, or we will die. So there."
Years later, we are all still alive and healthy. Not that Kaiser doesn't rub me the wrong way now and then; not that I don't occasionally label a doctor a Herzenstube (should you not know the reference, read either The Brother's Karamazov or the Answer to Everything) but I suspect if everybody was covered by Kaiser, all this political fuss about how to provide health insurance would give way to fuss about how to fix other pressing social problems.
And now I read that Kaiser Permanente is opening a medical school and giving away lots of free tuition.
Hooray for Kaiser. If you know anyone who would like to practice medicine, check this out.
Even More Exciting Education News
Once again, Perelandra College has set off on a new journey.
After several years attempting to offer our writing programs despite having given up our accreditation, which we simply couldn't afford to keep, we have turned our emphasis to our program in Christian Wisdom.
We spent many months petitioning the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education and now have been granted a status that allows us to offer a Master of Arts degree. Several of our writing classes are still available and can be taken for their own sake or as electives toward the M.A. in Christian Wisdom.
As you probably already know, Perelandra College is dedicated to providing education for a minimum cost. So, rather than spend on advertising, which would require us to raise tuition, we are hoping that word-of-mouth can at least make advertising optional rather than necessary.
With that in mind, please take a look at the college web site, check out the Wisdom program, and ask yourself if you or anyone you know might want to dive in.
The cost of classes is given on the page entitled Join Us. Should money concerns hold you or your friend or friends back, please ask us to grant a $50 scholarship for each class and/or to work out an easily affordable monthly payment plan.
The program will enrich the lives of those who take the Christian faith seriously, point in the right direction those who are ready to explore what Christ and his message are truly about, empower those who seek insights to use in ministry, or all of the above.
