In a globally tumultuous year it has been a privilege to be connected with communities across Australia driving lasting and positive change for their children and young people.

Some great moments from 2016 include:
  • visiting Kabulwarnamyo, NT where my family was welcomed into this thriving remote community
  • spending time in Doveton, VIC where the school has been re-purposed as the heart of the community
  • witnessing political and community leadership breaking new ground together in Logan, QLD
  • celebrating Community and Philanthropy Partnerships Week with a giant waterslide in Bourke, NSW
  • marking the fifth year and 9,000th student through the doors of Sydney Story Factory in Redfern, Sydney
I hope you take the time to read below for more about these inspirational community change agents.
In a year of many highlights I would like to thank our partners and collaborators who have contributed to our new five-year strategy. We look forward to working together in 2017 for greater opportunity and equality for all young Australians.

Wishing you wonderful times over the holidays.

Strong culture, happy kids

In the September school holidays Teya and her family visited the Kabulwarnamyo community in Arnhem Land to see their school, Nawarddeken Academy, in action.  Read 14 year old Elijah’s account of their experience where he met children who “were all so happy, smart and amazingly talented. What was very special to me however was how strong they were with their culture.”                                                                                                                                                 Read more >

Bourke celebrates

On 8 December the Dusseldorp Forum team and members of our board hit the long road to Bourke, NSW to join the community in celebrating Community and Philanthropy Partnership Week (CPPW) 2016. The week provides a chance for grassroots community groups and their philanthropic partners to showcase the great things they've achieved together.

Working with the bedrock

Dusseldorp Forum co-presented with partners Vincent Fairfax Family Foundation, the Maranguka Justice Reinvestment Project and the Children and Prison Program at the Philanthropy Australia Conference, sharing what it takes to work collaboratively at the community level to shift outcomes for young people.

Xixi and Makiah unleash their imaginations

This term Xixi and Makiah got to unleash their imaginations in a series of colourful creative writing workshops run by the Sydney Story Factory. They're among a group of 18 kids who attend after school programs with community organisations Weave and The Settlement in Redfern.
