RECIPE OF THE MONTH:
FRESH GREEN BEAN CASSEROLE
OK, I know when you see this recipe of the month you will think that I am rushing the holiday season. And I am. But as I may have mentioned, when I am ahead of the game, it’s a rare thing, and I have this wacky desire to be carried around on a chair lofted upon people’s shoulders. (You, too right?) So, let’s think of this as my green bean bat mitzvah. Ooh, is this possibly really a thing?

Anyway, I know that there are many, many people out there who love ye olde green bean casserole but I really think I have gotten somewhere by modernizing it by using fresh green beans and mushrooms, a creamy not-from-a-can sauce, and some frizzled shallots. Please tell me this will be part of your Thanksgiving table. Please don’t be mad at me for showing off that I came up with this over a month ahead of time. It comes only from love. And friends, truly, you should see my overflowing laundry basket
it would make you feel so much better.

And also, one other thing: I wrote this fairly cathartic piece about my older kid going to college. And it turned out that a mom we know read it, and then sent it to her kid, who then sent it to mine, who said, “Well, you sure are honest, Mom.” (P.S. I never write anything about my kids that I think they wouldn’t be OK with
I don’t need that kind of s#!t raining down on my head).

For this recipe of the month, a Fresh Green Bean Casserole is an updated version of a favorite holiday side dish.
