So, this is the time of year—in my kitchen—when asceticism bows its head and shuffles away in the overpowering presence of cold-weather food cravings. Healthier eating isn’t banned by any means; it just needs to know its place, and right now its place is a few steps behind the more convivial comfort food.
And when comfort food meets with convenience, that’s a winning mash-up.
Here are five dishes that satisfy the desire for hearty comfort food, and don’t make you pay for it when you head back in the kitchen to clean up. (And the last one is ALSO super healthy, so it's the best of all worlds.) And while most of these recipes don’t require a salad to make them a respectable dinner, I almost always pair everything I make with a green salad. Your call, of course.
