Yes, the holidays are coming. But before they arrive, we still need dinner. I had a very hard time picking December’s recipe of the month (I have a hard time every month, to be clear). Do I go with something wildly festive and holiday-ish? Or something pure comfort food to wrap ourselves around as things become more hectic? What to do what to do. The good news is that I have three other recipes to play with, so holiday cheer and real-life cooking both get their moment in the spotlight.

This pink drink is the most festive way to kick off a gathering, with all kinds of sweet-tart flavor. I am a huge fan of the pitcher drink. As much as I love creating cocktails and cooking, I feel like a schmo if I’m locked into prep mode while my guests are milling about.

And we’ll end on a sweet note. These are a terrific holiday cookie, with all kinds of warm spices, and your house will smell amazing when they are baking. If you need to nudge the holidays along a bit, a batch of these will do the trick. Courtney H. just wrote to me: “We all loved these!
