A Sneak Peak of The Mom 100 Family Table Cookbook!

Last Saturday evening at 6:11 p.m. was the moment we snapped the last photo for my next cookbook, The Mom 100 Family Table Cookbook. Six consecutive 11-hour days, 100-plus recipes (with variations on almost every one) cooked and shot, a cast of about 15 people making it all happen, and I loved every minute of it. I slept until 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, but it was a sound and happy sleep.

What I loved the most about the cookbook photo shoot is watching the book – which previously has only really existed really in my mind, my kitchen, and my computer – become real.

Here are some of the recipes you'll be seeing in the new cookbook:

1. Prosciutto Wrapped Shrimp (and Asparagus)
2. Orange Scones (with an option to make Orange, Cranberry, Apricot and Sage Scones)
3. Cobb Salad (with a vegetarian Fork-in-the-Road version)
4. Butternut Carrot Soup (with an Indian-spiced Fork-in-the-Road variation)
5. Caesar Salmon (with a Fork-in-the-Road chicken alternative)
6. Over-Fried Chicken (with a spicy option)
7. Lemon-Honey Potato Salad (with a plain Fork-in-the-Road option)
8. Pound Cake (with or without blueberries...or one of each)


     
There are no shortcuts to writing a cookbook, and I am just thrilled to have reached the part where it becomes a team effort, making what was but a manuscript containing a large collection of recipes into a real, live book. It will be coming to a bookseller near you (literally or virtually) in August 2015, but I will be sliding a few sneak-peek recipes your way from time to time.
Here's the first: One-Pot Raspberry Oatmeal Bars. They are my family's very favorite dessert of the summer, and judging from the way they were inhaled after the photo shoot, my gang is not alone in their obsession with these buttery, toothsome squares.
