Moving forward with the FOAM FREE movement on Hawai'i Island
Despite hearing hours of testimony in SUPPORT of Bill 140 from community members, nonprofit groups, scientists, restaurant owners, and more, the Hawai‘i County Council voted to kill the styrofoam reduction bill on Fri., June 3rd with a 4-4 tie vote. In light of this disappointment, HWF strongly believes that we can move forward more organically by supporting the 100+ restaurants that already operate without foam on Hawai‘i Island. We are also happy to hear discussion and support efforts to launch similar measures for Maui and Kaua‘i Counties in the near future.

Please know that you vote with every dollar that you spend. Together, we can work at a grass-roots level to support the foam free local vendors and restaurants around us and educate the owners who continue to use foam products, we will slowly start to see the change that we seek. Also, you can ALWAYS opt to Bring-Your-Own-To-Go-Ware products and eliminate extra waste to begin with. Mahalo nui loa to all the individuals and groups who joined us in supporting this local effort to #holdthefoam. For a current list of foam free restaurants or to add a name/vendor we may have missed, please contact us at meg.HWF@gmail.com.
