Congratulations to all of our participants at Jewels Academy for a high-impact summer!
Our first Saturday kicked-off with the Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds at Drake University. The girls were inspired. Thank you for visiting Jewels Academy!
In week 2, we were at our home base, the Mickle Center, where the girls learned to solder, created a joystick and designed video games. They learned about the basic workings of a circuit and programming from software and electrical engineers in the community.
Our Pearls, the oldest class of 8th and 9th graders designed in 2-D and at the same time worked with chemicals to create a glass etching project. The ladies learned how to handle chemicals and the importance of wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).
Week 3, we had Iowa State Universities' K-12 community outreach team! The team created high engagement where they practiced trial and error of robotics and their functions. The level of focused from the students was fantastic!.
During our last week, all the girls were able to experience Personal Care Chemistry (PCC). Each class made different formulations to find that "perfect formula" and competed to see who had the best formula. We saw the competitive juices flow.
We had such a spectacular time this summer with all the girls that attended! Thank you for being a part of the Jewels Academy family! We hope to see you back this fall! Click here
