Gearing up for Y.E.S!
Math camp has come to a close, and we're very proud of all the girls who participated over the last four weeks.  They learned about fractions, budgeting for basic expenses, and how to work as a team.  The skills they have picked up will not only serve them well in the classroom, but also throughout everyday life.
Our final day, our speaker was an epidemiologist with the Iowa Department of Public Health.  Ms. Oluwakemi Oni showed the girls how STEM can be used to protect the public and maintain its health via different paths than the medical field.  After a presentation on what sorts of math-based skills are needed in epidemiology, the group moved on to a brief lesson about influential women in mathematics and then their final round of MathMinutes.  The day finished up with some competitive rounds of Math Jeopardy and Around the World.

We would like to thank our sponsors that have contributed to the Math Camp Program! THANK YOU!!!!
But with the end of Math Camp comes the beginning of Y.E.S!  Starting July 7th, Jewels Academy is hosting a Young Emerging Scientists program for any girl interested in STEM.  Participants will program cars using Arduino programming, build a Rube Goldberg machine, learn about structural engineering, and design and print their very own t-shirts.
