VIRTUAL MATH TUTORING

Our virtual math tutoring program is returning for the fall semester! Following the success of the summer virtual program, as well as health concerns for students and staff, we have decided to remain in a virtual format for the remainder of 2020.

The teacher-led tutoring sessions run from 9/15 - 10/20.  Sessions are every Tuesday from 4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.  The price is $15 per week.

FALL YES PROGRAMMING
After the success of our summer, Virtual App Camp went national with a waiting list, we will keep the virtual platform for the fall Y.E.S. (Young Emerging Scientist) programming.

Acting as a 'sequel' to the summer camp, students in this camp will learn the principles of coding and app design, and creative thinking skills to create an app.

Our fall programming will be open to students in grades 4-9, n Saturdays, October 10 and 17, from 9:30 am -12:30 pm.

GOING VIRTUAL

Over the course of six weeks this summer, students from all over the country participated in our first ever Virtual App Camp. Students in this program were guided by our instructors through their app's development, teaching them about computer science, applied math, and critical problem-solving. They presented their progress during weekly sessions, getting feedback from the mentors and instructors.

At the end of the program, students presented their finished app to a panel of judges from both Jewels Academy and from our corporate sponsors.  Thank you Cognizant Making the Future Grant and Microsoft!

We had two groups, beginners and advance.  The first prizes went to Dimitri and Krista, respectively.  Dimitri's app centered around YouTube personalities and the positive impact they make on the people they serve.  Krista's app had a social justice theme.  Her app featured resources to educate oneself on poverty, homelessness, racism, and discrimination. Each participant created an app that had a range of themes from environmental to social attributes that would positively impact their peers or communities.  These themes included an app resource guide for their county, a reduction in the pollution of the Chesapeake Bay to creating a tutorial on how to play basketball. We were so proud of their creative ideas to continually improve their communities.

Take a look at some of the apps our students created below!

Much Success...
To all students returning to school this fall on-site or virtual e-learning!
