Dragon Con was amazing! What I enjoyed most was meeting new artists and followers of my work. The crowd had such good energy and I will definitely be attending again next year. The community brought together for this event was wonderful. My husband and I had a great time. `Also, my piece "My Brothers" (see below) was awarded Best Black and White illustration by the judges of Dragon Con. This guarantees me a table for next year! I feel so honored to have won an award along with the major talent that exhibited this year.
I know this piece isn't exactly black and white. However, one of the judges told me they all agreed they wanted to award this piece anyway. I'm thrilled!
Below is my latest published work in Jim Henson's Dark Crystal Artist Tribute Book by Boom Publishing. This is a chalk pastel drawing depicting Jen and his master Urzah the Mystic from the cult classic Dark Crystal film. I was beyond excited to have my work approved by Jim Henson Co. and credited alongside fellow illustrators I greatly respect. You can purchase the book at any book store. For fans of the movie, Netflix is producing a reboot sequel!

My black and white value study for this piece.
2018 marks the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. See my latest chalk pastel piece "The Wretch" for "FRANKENSTEIN 200" with COREY HELFORD GALLERY in Los Angeles, CA. Show opens Saturday, Sept 8th. Contact caro@coreyhelfordgallery.com for purchase inquiries.

I dove into the original text to create my own rendition of Dr. Frankenstein's monster. A creature stitched together of the most beautiful parts, but came together with yellowish sunken skin, pale eyes, black lips, and long lustrous black hair. Their first true meeting is on a cloudy mountain path and I wanted to depict the monster's quiet disdain for his creator.

"It's a Me". My latest chalk pastel piece for "The Super Mario Super Art Show" at Bottleneck Gallery in Brooklyn, NY. I really wanted to showcase Mario badass-ness and what he goes through to save his woman. I notice that I seem to really enjoy drawing warrior like characters and battle wounds. I like showing that strength.

Opens tonight! Friday night, Sept 7th. Price is $220 and I will have a few 5x7 $20 limited edition prints.  Contact joe@bottleneckgallery.com for purchase inquiries.

Named after the goddess of mischief. Chalk pastel on paper original drawing. Framed and matted with glass. Ready to hang. I wanted to enjoy using a limited pallet and explore more expressive mark making that is exclusive to chalk pastels. That's why you see the dust particles down the eye, which adds to the luminosity and mystical nature of this piece.
