A message from the Director Professor Siddharthan Chandran

Professor Siddharthan Chandran
What an incredible six months it has been for the Euan MacDonald Centre and motor neurone disease charities across the world! The ice bucket challenge really lifted MND into the public consciousness and was a massive boost to fundraising. At the Euan MacDonald Centre we have been able to fund two highly promising pilot studies as a direct result of the challenge - one to image the loss of nerve connections in the brains of people with MND, and the other to test a new therapeutic in spinal muscular atrophy. We look forward to reporting the results of these studies to you next year.

At the Euan MacDonald Centre we are justifiably proud of the research achievements of our team of committed scientists across Scotland. We are proud of our partnerships too - with academic collaborators and other MND charities (most notably MND Scotland & the MND Association) and are delighted to have played a small role in the establishment of the Joost van der Westhuizen Centre for Neurodegeneration in South Africa. Closer to home we are supporting the incredible Gordon Aikman in his "Gordon's Fightback" campaign, and are gratified to watch the growing success of Euan's Guide, the website and app that features disabled access reviews written by disabled people and their friends and families. We encourage you all to submit reviews of places you visit over Christmas!

We would like wish all our supporters a wonderful festive season and a happy and successful 2015.
