As we prepare for the Celebration of Light, I am thinking about the phrase “pay it forward”. I enjoyed about the movie by the same name, but I am curious about the derivation of the phrase. “The actual phrase pay it forward, was most likely coined by an author Lily Hardy Hammond where she wrote: ‘You don’t pay love back; you pay it forward.’” I love this idea, especially as it applies to the work and mission of the Fulcrum Foundation. Every person who has attended the Celebration of Light has had a direct or indirect experience with Catholic schools that compels each to touch the life of an individual through the gift of Catholic education. Whether it is through tuition assistance for a student, or a school through the partnership grants, or assisting one of our future Catholic school leaders through a university partnership; each is an example of a gift of love that truly pays it forward! Every gift affirms the foundation’s ability to allow students access, improve school programs for future generations, and prepare Catholic leaders to minister to their communities. Next Friday, the Fulcrum team has made it possible for us to virtually gather, celebrate our Catholic schools and honor all those who truly impact the future of our Church and world. I want to express my deep gratitude for all that the Fulcrum Foundation team and the donors have done over the past 19 years to support our Catholic schools. We look forward to seeing you all Friday night at the Celebration of Light…and of love.
