A new partnership aims to serve as a flexible gathering space and community resource clearinghouse for collaborations between UW-Madison and the South Madison community, benefiting all participants in an exchange of knowledge and ideas.
UW climate symposium happening in March
The Nelson Institute's Center for Climatic Research will address a wide range of climate change topics including ecology, resilience and public policy at the UW Climate Change Symposium March 5-6.

Food For Thought

State budget calls for more recycling cuts
Gov. Scott Walker is proposing cuts in his budget for recycling, a move that represents a more than 50 percent reduction in funding to communities over five years.
Should you take notes with a laptop, or paper?
An evaluation of the carbon footprint of a laptop and a paper notebook yields some interesting conclusions about the most sustainable way to take notes.

Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Postdoctoral Research Awards
The U.S. Office of Energy & Renewable Energy is accepting applications for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) Postdoctoral Research Awards, which support its mission by offering recent Ph.D. recipients the opportunity to conduct applied research at universities, national laboratories and other research facilities. Application deadline is May 7.
UW System sophomore research fellowships
The UW System is funding sophomore research fellowships for undergraduate research done with UW–Madison faculty/instructional staff. Student researchers receive $2,500 and faculty receive $500 to offset research costs. Application deadline is March 9.
Wisconsin Open Education Community Fellowship – Madison, WI
The Wisconsin Education Community Fellowship will support undergraduate student projects aimed at public engagement in the student's own Wisconsin community. The fellowship is intended to be complementary to UW–Madison's Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). Early application deadline is March 12 and final application deadline is March 26.
