2015 Sustainability Forum to focus on consumption habits
At the forum, academic, industry, and nonprofit leaders will strive to go beyond the rhetoric of the “three R’s” - reduce, reuse, recycle - to examine the reasons for and impacts of our everyday consumption habits, focusing on our use of food, clothing, shelter, and personal electronics.

What's New at UW?

Chancellor Blank discusses challenges of proposed budget cut
Chancellor Rebecca Blank told the Board of Regents Thursday that a proposed cut in state support for the UW System would reduce student programming, lead to job lapses and layoffs, and reduce financial aid and access to the university. Watch video here (starts at 3:50).
UW launches new option for flexible and online degrees, certificates
In an effort to highlight UW–Madison's growing menu of flexible and online degree and certificate programs, the university is launching a new one-stop web portal at advanceyourcareer.wisc.edu.
Final MIU report proves value of targeted funding
Over the past five years, UW–Madison's Madison Initiative for Undergraduates (MIU) has filled critical gaps at times when shrinking support from state and federal sources might have eroded aspects of the undergraduate experience.

Three Minute Thesis
February 16, 2015 | 1-3 p.m. | Discovery Building
Three Minute Thesis (3MT) is an international competition in which Ph.D. students explain their thesis research to a general audience. The competition is open to any UW–Madison graduate student in a STEM field (science, technology, engineering and math). Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three contestants.

UW Arboretum restoration team leaders – Madison, WI
The UW Arboretum is hiring volunteer restoration team leaders to supervise restoration activities at the arboretum and lead restoration work parties. The position requires two years of service. Application deadline is March 16.
Sauk County Department of Conservation, Planning, and Zoning interns – Baraboo, WI
The Sauk County Department of Conservation, Planning, and Zoning is hiring three full-time interns for summer 2015 to aid in projects including conservation planning and surveying and designing water conservation practices. Application deadline is February 27.

GRANTS

Hilldale Undergraduate/Faculty Research Fellowships
Hilldale Undergraduate/Faculty Research Fellowships support undergraduate research done in collaboration with UW–Madison faculty or research/instructional staff. Students receive $3,000 and faculty receive $500 to offset research costs. Application deadline is February 16.
UW System sophomore research fellowships
The UW System is funding sophomore research fellowships for undergraduate research done with UW–Madison faculty/instructional staff. Student researchers receive $2,500 and faculty receive $500 to offset research costs. Application deadline is March 9.
Wisconsin Open Education Community Fellowship – Madison, WI
The Wisconsin Education Community Fellowship will support undergraduate student projects aimed at public engagement in the student's own Wisconsin community. The fellowship is intended to be complementary to UW–Madison's Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). Early application deadline is March 12 and final application deadline is March 26.
