Student invention prevents excessive salt
A group of UW–Madison students is changing the water softening process with Emonix H2O, a device that can control the amount of salt used by water softeners.

Bacteria found to eat PET plastics
Japanese researchers discovered a species of bacteria that breaks down PET with just two enzymes, opening new possibilities for recycling or cleaning up one of the most common plastics. 
New plans could make Capitol Square biking easier
Preliminary city plans to install a contraflow bike lane on Capitol Square will proceed despite opposition from state officials.
