New Wisconsin Energy Institute interim director
Ian Coxhead, UW–Madison professor and chair of the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics, will serve as interim director of the Wisconsin Energy Institute for the next year.
Forest resilience in the face of fires
UW–Madison researchers are defining conditions that may allow ecologists to predict when forests will be resilient or when they will be fundamentally altered by large-scale disturbances.

Replacing lead pipes despite the cost
Top Milwaukee and state officials agreed last week that Wisconsin must move as quickly as possible to replace all of the estimated 176,000 lead pipes providing drinking water to homes and businesses in the state.
The class politics of decluttering
Minimalism is seemingly everywhere now, but it is a virtue only when it’s a choice. For people who are not so well off, the idea of opting to have even less is not really an option.

Florida State University is seeking someone to develop and implement sustainability programs with campus partners, engage the campus community and develop best practices to improve campus sustainability metrics. Application deadline is September 16.
Web coordinator – Madison, WI
The Division of Forestry of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is seeking a coordinator to manage the division's information systems project portfolio. Application deadline is September 23.

PROFESSIONAL

Sustainability manager – Blacksburg, VA
Virginia Tech is seeking an individual to lead the direction of the sustainability program for Dining Services and Housing & Residential Life. Application review begins September 16.
Outreach and communications associate – Washington, DC
The American Wind Wildlife Institute seeks an outreach and communications professional to support wind power siting and operations work to minimize impacts to wildlife and habitat. Application deadline is not listed.

OPPORTUNITIES

Ecology and sustainability service learning trips
Quest, a program that encourages service learning through travel, is planning four trips this year related to agriculture, food, public health, sustainability, and ecological preservation. Trip locations are North Dakota, Sri Lanka, and Costa Rica. Application deadline for winter programs is October 3.
