The Office of Sustainability employs 10 to 15 student interns to help with a variety of sustainability initiatives in areas including research, campus operations, events, communications and community outreach. Application deadline is January 16.

What's New at UW?

Last call: Improve campus recycling
The Office of Sustainability is surveying campus users about the campus recycling program. Weigh in by Friday, January 9, for the chance to win a prize drawing, then learn the answers to your recycling questions at TOPICS on January 23.
Camp Randall achieves all-time high recycling
Working with WE CONSERVE and the Office of Sustainability, the Wisconsin Athletic Department reached all-time highs in its sustainability and recycling efforts during the 2014 football season with 45.2 tons of waste recycled.
'Career Kickstart' to launch in 2015
Starting this fall, Career Kickstart will offer a head start for students thinking beyond graduation with career preparation tools and advising in a residential non-freshman program in Ogg Residence Hall.

Wisconsin Farm to School Summit

Ira and Ineva Reilly Baldwin Wisconsin Idea Endowment
The Provost’s Office is soliciting proposals from UW–Madison faculty, staff and students for new outreach, translational and community-based research and public engagement projects or new dimensions to existing activities that reinforce our public mission and help advance the Wisconsin Idea. Applications due to deans' offices by noon on January 26, 2015.
UW System Solid Waste Research Program
The University of Wisconsin System is seeking proposals for research into alternative methods of solid waste disposal, including reusing, recycling and reducing the amount of waste generated. Proposal deadline is February 11, 2015.
Lakeshore Nature Preserve Student Engagement Grant
The Lakeshore Nature Preserve is offering small grants (up to $1000) for undergraduates and faculty or staff working with undergraduates to facilitate the use of the 300-acre natural area as a resource for education. Application deadline is February 16, 2015.
The Clean Energy Challenge
The Clean Energy Challenge is a launch pad for Midwest clean energy startups. As the flagship accelerator program of Clean Energy Trust, the challenge offers finalists industry-leading mentorship, national exposure and the chance to compete for $1 million in total investments.
The Next Play: Sustainability & Sports Venture Tournament
The Next Play is a national competition for student-led business plans that aim to make the sports industry more sustainable. Students groups will compete for more than $30,000 in prize money and in-kind support. The final competition will take place April 17-18 in Charlotte, NC. Register here to compete.
