New Sustainability Certificate launches
A new undergraduate Certificate in Sustainability will be available beginning in Fall 2014, offered by the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies with support from the Office of Sustainability.

Backpacks for Madison collects used backpacks to help the homeless
Are you graduating, moving out or cleaning up? Have a backpack that you don't need? Backpacks for Madison is collecting backpacks at campus locations including Union South, Memorial Union, the Natatorium, the Southeast Recreational Facility and more.
UW–Madison research shapes national climate report
The report details how climate change is affecting different regions of the United States and key sectors of the national economy. UW–Madison professor and Global Health Institute Director Jonathan Patz was a lead author on the section of the report about the Midwest.
UW–Madison, Johnson Controls open new energy storage test lab
The new facility at the Wisconsin Energy Institute will explore how the next generation of car batteries will fit into the nation's overall energy picture. The university is researching systems that would use energy stored in vehicle batteries to send power to the overall power grid.

Sunset Serenade

Sunset Serenade is a free naturalist-led hike to take in the sights and sounds of a late spring evening. The sun will set at 8:16 p.m., followed by an hour of twilight time in the woods or prairie.

In an op-ed for The New York Times, former Utah governor Jon M Huntsman, Jr., who is also UW–Madison's spring commencement speaker, said the Republican party needs to consider the scientific evidence supporting climate change to make well-informed policy choices.

Energy Center of Wisconsin Education Program Administrator - Madison, WI
The Energy Center of Wisconsin is looking for a full-time education program coordinator to plan and manage events including conferences, trainings, webinars and online courses.


Wisconsin Energy Institute Seed Grant
The Wisconsin Energy Institute will award approximately $150,000 to faculty and scientific staff for one- and two-year projects related to carbon-neutral energy technologies and policies including wind, solar, geothermal, bioenergy and energy storage. Application deadline is June 2.
Discovery to Product (D2P) Igniter funds
The goal of the $2.4 million Igniter fund is to provide financial and business support for up to 10 UW–Madison pre-company innovations that can be ready to start or receive licenses by March 31, 2015. The final application deadline for Igniter funds is May 20.
