Public invited to attend final Climate Quest showcase
Almost ten months ago, Climate Quest launched a call to action to develop transformative, practical solutions to climate change challenges.

The five remaining teams will make their final pitches during a free public event Friday, January 30, at the Fluno Center. There are a few seats left - register now!

What's New at UW?

Study shows Brazil's Soy Moratorium still needed 
In a new study, UW–Madison's Holly Gibbs and colleagues across the United States and Brazil show that the moratorium helped to drastically reduce the amount of deforestation linked to soy production in Brazil and was better at curbing it than government policy alone.
Badger Volunteers registration open through January 29
Badger Volunteers is a weekly volunteer program that connects students to community organizations in areas including education, public health and sustainability.
Seeking proposals for sustainability conference
The Office of Sustainability is coordinating proposal submissions for the Upper Midwest Association for Campus Sustainability's upcoming conference to be held June 17-19. Contact Sabrina Bradshaw for more information.

Wisconsin seeks to ban tiny beads in soaps
Tiny plastic beads in personal care products are showing up in the Great Lakes amid growing worries about the dangers they pose to humans, fish and aquatic life. Two bills in the Wisconsin Legislature would phase out and ultimately ban their use.
Reusing and recycling could create 200,000 jobs
More than 200,000 jobs could be created as the economy shifts to reusing materials traditionally discarded by businesses and households, according to a study by a leading green charity.

Hilldale Undergraduate/Faculty Research Fellowships
Hilldale Undergraduate/Faculty Research Fellowships support undergraduate research done in collaboration with UW–Madison faculty or research/instructional staff. Students receive $3,000 and faculty receive $500 to offset research costs. Application deadline is February 16.
UW System sophomore research fellowships
The UW System is funding sophomore research fellowships for undergraduate research done with UW–Madison faculty/instructional staff. Student researchers receive $2,500 and faculty receive $500 to offset research costs. Application deadline is March 9.
