A mock up of our Injalak Hill Rock Art Book - it's not printed yet!

Injalak Hill Rock Art Book
Crowdfunding Campaign

Last week we kicked off our third Pozible Crowdfunding campaign to raise funds to print the Injalak Hill Rock Art Book. We plan to print in June 2018 - and with the campaign nearly 50% funded (as of today) it's looking very positive. Injalak Hill is a world famous rock art site and long overdue for a book. Until now visitors to Injalak Hill's extensive rock art galleries and sites have not had any reference book or souvenir of the visit. If you've had the chance to visit it you will know how special it is. The book will have 42 pages and is in full color. Three years in the making it includes contributions from our senior guides and staff plus academics Sally K. May and Mel Marshall. Graphic designer, Amber Young, has once again made it beautiful to look at and that's enhanced its readability. The campaign has a great range of awards. If you are interested in visiting Injalak Hill on one of our 3-4 hour Rock Art tours this dry season please see information here

Each page is beautifully laid out with historical and contemporary photos to illustrate the text

Our Online Etsy Shop
reminder - we need to close it end of May

It's been a big wet season for our online Etsy Shop. Last week we hit the 2,000 sales mark since opening and much of it was since November 2017. When our roads become impassable from December to end of April we rely on online sales for cash flow. Yet our artists and print workshop are creating all year round and we need to find customers! At the beginning of May, when the road to Gunbalanya finally opened, we began receiving tourists every day. We now have two very enthusiastic teams of printers - women and men. Onsite you will see women printing on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Men print on the other days and its shared by robust negotiation on Saturdays. This amount of activity is great for visitors on site - everyone loves watching as a length of fabric is printed. There's something magical and yet so simple about transforming a length of fabric from blank to patterned in a few moments with a screen and ink. As tourist season kicks in we need to wind down online sales in our Etsy Shop - we simply don't have time to upload photos or pack and send stock out because things get so busy in our onsite shop. Make sure you take advantage of the huge choice of stock still available - more than 300 items - including fabric lengths, books, cushion covers, bags, mats and more.

Reuben and Daniel print the top screen of Marebu (mats) design that was created by Injalak ladies in 2013 and has become a bestseller
Kevin Gameraidj (Management Committee member) and his wife Selina Nadjowh (fabric artist, printer, weaver and soon to be children's book illustrator) in our print workshop. Selina taught Kevin how to print. Here they have just printed the two-screen design 'Many Different Textures' celebrating women's weaving techniques.
Next month - June - we'll be launching an exciting new venture called PROVENANCE ARTS at 55 Stuart Highway Darwin, on the site of the former Framed Gallery. Provenance Arts will be a destination and hub that offers a wide range of services and experiences including arts, culture, tourist information, education, demonstrations and events. It's a bit of a challenge to describe because it's unprecedented in scope. We are collaborating with art centres, Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists and artisans and tour operators throughout the Northern Territory and beyond. Provenance Arts is an initiative of Injalak Arts - therefore 100% Aboriginal owned.
We'll be featuring more about Provenance Arts in a forthcoming newsletter.
