Back Injalak

Thank you for supporting Injalak Arts

In response to the global pandemic Injalak Arts launched a global campaign of positivity around connection to culture and community.
We've been overwhelmed by the positive response to our campaign through donations, buying artworks and sharing our posts. Thanks to our generous supporters. We will continue reaching out in different ways to show that we've got your back in these trying times and we're in this together. Stay connected. #backinjalak

Injalak Curates

Whilst lockdown prevents visitors to the art centre or galleries we have launched Injalak Curates.
For the second edition of our online exhibition we want to share new works by Graham Badari.

Life Forces brings together Graham Badari’s latest body of works, bursting with energy and colour. Graham Badari paints every day opposite Injalak Hill and the billabong where he makes acute observations on the different animals and plants that come with the changing seasons. His paintings show the influence of the visual language of their rock-art heritage, while remaining committed to artistic innovation. It is this beguiling balance of tensions, innovation and tradition, ancient and modern, beauty and terror, that energises Badari’s paintings.

As part of our Back Injalak campaign we've been sharing videos showing all the hard work and skill that goes in to making each unique fibre art. Weavers gather fresh young leaves from the Pandanus palm using a hooked stick, then strip and dry them. The pandanus is then boiled up on the campfire with local plant dyes.

See how weavers dye purple yellow and red.

We've been busy uploading lots of beautiful new fibre art including Marebu (woven mats), Animal sculptures, baskets and earrings. Feel free to contact us for more info.
