Nungalinya eNews - December 2016

Looking Back - Looking Forward

Dear <<First Name>>

Our Academic year has now finished with our last graduation on the 11th November. As Principal I want to express my gratitude to God who has sustained and provided for us throughout the year, and also to the staff team (pictured above) who have worked tirelessly throughout the year. We are now ready for a bit of a rest!

In all we had over 300 students study throughout the year, with 78 graduating in 5 courses. At the end of each year we have a number of review days - full staff, teachers and deans, student care team - and these have been very helpful times of sharing together. There were too many highlights of the year to list them all but the influence of our Certificate IV students and the Indigenous Assistant Teachers on the college community life as well as classes has been fantastic.  We are very grateful for these mature, godly Indigenous Christian people who have been such a significant part of the college this year.

The College closes down for two weeks over Christmas and many staff take additional leave as well. There will not be a newsletter for January, but please continue to pray for us, for refreshment and prepara
tions for the new year.

On behalf of Nungalinya College, I would like to wish you a joyful and blessed Christmas and thank you for your interest and support throughout the year.
Jude Long
Principal

Prayer Points

If you are short on time:

  • Pray for College staff as they have holidays - for safety, refreshment and a renewed vision for 2017
  • Pray for Tony and Margie Goodluck as they move from Adelaide for Tony to become the UCA Dean.
  • Pray for the application process that we might have the right students to study next year.
If you have a bit longer:
  • Pray that graduates would be able to share their learning with their communities and families
  • Continue to pray for the funding application to the Aboriginal Benefits Account for an upgrade to the College
  • Continue to pray for the certification of the College buildings that it will be complete before cyclone season - we are still waiting and time is growing short.
Pass it on!

From the Bible

Isaiah 9:6

New International Version (NIV)

He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Mandy Manggurra Trainee Teacher
Our Indigenous Assistant Teacher program has been a vital change to our teaching at Nungalinya. Consistently we get feedback from both students and teacher about how good it is to have them. However, this is only first step on a pathway towards having qualified Indigenous teachers in the future.

We are delighted to announce that CMS (Church Missionary Society) will be funding Mandy Manggurra to take the next step on the pathway and become a trainee teacher. She will continue to assist in classes but start her Certificate IV in Training and Assessment so she will eventually be able to teach. Mandy lives in Darwin and will work full time at the college during term times.
Farewell to Felicity

It is with sadness that we say goodbye to Rev Felicity Amery who has been the Uniting Church Dean at Nungalinya for the last 3 1/2 years. Felicity has brought great cultural and educational experience and boundless energy to her role. Uniting Church students are the largest group of students at the college so it has been a very busy role which she managed to combine with teaching in Foundation Studies(she was coordinator for 1 year) as well as many other "projects" around the college.

Our new UCA Dean will be the Rev Tony Goodluck. He will be starting on the 1st March. Please pray for him and his wife Margie as they make they move to Darwin from Adelaide.
