Nungalinya eNews - April 2016

Hosts make Nungalinya a safe and welcoming place
Neil and Steph Hunt volunteer hosts in Term 4

Dear <<First Name>>
For the past several years we have had hosts who live on site at Nungalinya and care for students out of hours. This year our Monday to Friday hosts are Amy and Chad Robertson. During the day Chad works as a teacher at Palmerston Christian School but in the evenings helps students feel safe by doing a security round and locking all the gates and also being on call if there are any security concerns. Amy is a nurse and has already had to deal with one serious emergency situation where a student who was a diabetic had a hypoglycaemic episode resulting in unconsciousness. It was a great relief to students and staff that Amy was on hand to immediately call the ambulance but also monitor the student until help arrived.

The weekend hosts have the vital task of managing student transport needs. They ensure students, many of whom have not been to Darwin before, feel safe and cared for as they arrive. We have been very fortunate over the last few years to have some wonderful retired or semi retired couples take on that role. It would also be a great role for theological students who might be thinking about ministry in an Indigenous context in the future. A comfortable 2 bedroom unit and meals during term time are provided as part of the position. We would be very keen to hear from any interested people for this year, and also for the future. Please contact Jude Long and also check out the job description on the website.

Prayer Points

If you are short on time:

  • Pray for the new students coming on the 11th April to study Foundation Studies, Media and Discipleship, and Certificate III in Christian Theology and Ministry
  • Pray for Jude Long, Liz McCoy and Mandy Mangurra as they teach new Cert III units God's Story, and Jesus' Story.
  • Pray for the urgent need for weekend hosts, and for the staff covering this important role in the meantime.
If you have a bit longer:
  • Pray for preparations for the Katherine Christian Convention where Nungalinya will be the featured mission this year.
  • Continue to pray for a new Development Officer for the College as no suitable applicants have yet applied.
  • Pray for Indigenous Church leaders as they seek to be peacemakers and hope givers in their communities.
Music Class for 2016
Our Music students have been in for their first intensive in Term 1. While it is a small class, Lucy their teacher, says that this has been one of the best at working together and supporting each other. Please pray for the students as they do their homework including composing a Christian song before returning in Term 4.

Communion Service
As part of the Certificate IV in Christian Ministry and Theology course, students do a unit on celebrating the sacraments. A highlight of the week was the communion service that the class led in chapel.
